Abstract

Fingerprints are the impressions that are left by the ridges on any surface (porous & non-porous). The impressions which are left behind by our fingers are unique to an individual. Ridge forms during the fetal life of human beings. Ridges generally begin to form during the third and fourth month of fetal life. These ridges form aperture like structure around the pore. These pores aligned together to form a ridge. The sweat glands start to develop around the 14th week of fetal life and form completely around the 24th week of fetal life. The sweat from these pores gets deposited onto another surface that we touched. In this way, the ridge impression gets transferred. These ridge impressions are actually known as Fingerprints.  Fingerprints have individual characteristics thus make it important evidence.
